Robert Silas
Your field instructor
An outdoor educator with more than thirty years spent studying useful plants, foraging, bushcraft, and practical wilderness knowledge across the Southeastern Woodlands.
Thirty years in the field
Robert has spent more than three decades studying wild edible, medicinal, and useful plants, particularly throughout Georgia, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
Grounded teaching
His approachable teaching helps everyday hikers and outdoor learners move beyond the ‘Green Wall’—the feeling that the landscape is only scenery—and begin noticing its food, medicine, tools, and stories.
Experience beyond the trail
Robert has taught foraging and survival skills, helped prepare two contestants for Discovery Channel’s Naked and Afraid, and teaches martial arts with experience in Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, and judo.
Why Robert teaches
Beyond the Green Wall.
Many people move through forests and fields without realizing what is growing beneath their feet. Robert’s work is about closing that distance—making practical outdoor knowledge welcoming, useful, and relevant before anyone faces an emergency.
The goal is not dramatic survival for its own sake. It is greater awareness and confidence: recognizing a wild edible, understanding a useful plant, making sound decisions outdoors, and building a more respectful relationship with the living landscape.
Our journey has been anything but ordinary. Through every step, we've focused on staying true to our values and making space for thoughtful, lasting work.
